LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 79-year-old man faces murder charges for allegations he shot his neighbor in the head following an argument earlier this month.

Authorities say Ettore Lacchei had several “perceived grievances” with his neighbor, William Martys, and approached him at about 7:35 p.m. on April 12 while Martys was using a leaf blower in his yard in the 40700 block of North Black Oak Avenue in unincorporated Antioch.

Lacchei began arguing with Martys, and then shot him in the head, authorities said. Martys, 59, was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was later pronounced dead.

Police found the gun Lacchei is accused of using near Lacchei’s property line following the shooting. Currently, it’s unclear what specifically the disagreement was over, said Christopher Covelli, deputy chief with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for Lacchei’s home and searched the residence on Tuesday before taking the elderly man into custody.
