MONROE, CT — Wells Fargo has closed its branch in Monroe, located at 470 Monroe Turnpike branch.

Wells Fargo spokesperson Jacqueline Hlavenka-Sansone told Patch the decision to close the Monroe Plaza bank branch on June 7 was a “difficult” one, but that customers could continue to bank with the firm at other nearby locations, including Trumbull. All employees at 470 Monroe Turnpike have been transferred to nearby branches.

According to the bank’s website, Wells Fargo currently operates with 54 banks and 82 ATMs in 44 different cities and towns in Connecticut, and more than 12,000 ATMs and approximately 4,900 retail banking branches in 36 states nationwide.

“Branches continue to play an important role in the way we serve our customers, and we continuously evaluate our branch network in light of changing customer needs, the increase in the use of digital banking, market factors, and economic trends,” Hlavenka-Sansone said.

At least three more Connecticut branches are slated for closure this summer in Connecticut, at 108 Mill Plain Road in Danbury and 950 Post Road in Darien, both on July 26; and at 761 Highland Avenue, in Waterbury, on Aug. 16.
