MURRIETA, CA — A structure fire Thursday evening in Murrieta spread to nearby vegetation before crews got the upper hand on it.

The blaze was reported before sundown in the area of Twin Willow Road and Lee Lane, on the north end of the city, near Whitewood and Baxter roads.

When Murrieta Fire & Rescue units arrived, a large, garage-like structure was in flames and the blaze was threatening nearby vegetation amid windy conditions.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department was called to assist.

The fire briefly spread to a large area of brush, but firefighters were able to quickly halt it.

Multiple fire engines and water trucks were used to shuttle water to the incident, and the fire was knocked down within about an hour.

Crews remained at the scene for several hours to douse hot spots and fully contain the blaze.

The structure and its contents were destroyed.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
