MILFORD, CT – Growing up, Loren Costantini found his family’s land in Milford a place of solace and a place to escape it all. Costantini said he and his brother would hike the woods and be present while talking and enjoying nature.
As he’s gotten older, Constantini said he wanted to give people some of the same solace, peace and energy he found while walking through the woods of his family’s land.
Constantini, with the help of his family, started The Woods.

“This land has always been a blessing to my family because it’s been a place of solace, contemplation, a place to escape to and get away from technology and be present,” he said. “This is what we are trying to give to others, and we have decided to share our little gem here in Milford with other people.”
The Woods is set to have their Open Farm Day on July 8 at 101 Red Rood Ln. in Milford.

“What I’d like to do is to run this space by donation only so anyone can use this space,” Constantini said. “We do have a suggested donation, and we are a for-profit company, but we want to make it accessible to everybody.”
“I’ve heard of people using this business model, and it worked, so we’re going to see if it works here,” he added.
The Woods at Red Root Farm is ancestral farmland designed to bring people back to sustainable living, nature and creativity.

“One of the ways we are sustainable is we collect rainwater, and we use it to water our plants,” Costantini said.
One of the main ideas for The Woods is for it to connect to various public wooded areas, especially the Solomon Woods.
“Those are beautiful trails, and those are trails I grew up on,” Constantini said.
Constantini said they implemented the plan to create The Woods a few years ago.
“We have a garden where we are going to teach people how to grow their vegetables and live sustainably,” he said. “Everything we grow here is natural, and we use indigenous microorganisms for our gardens.”
On their opening day on July 8, Constantini said they would give away some of their plants.
At The Woods, people can take classes, workshops, guided meditations and much more.
“When we started developing The Woods, we wanted to create spaces for people to come to enjoy themselves, retreat into the woods and in silence,” Constantini said.
One of the facilities The Woods offers is geodesic domes, where many indoor classes and mediations will be held.
“This is an incredibly efficient and easy structure for heating, cooling and sound,” Constaniniti. “We built one of them in three hours.”
Another one of the spaces is a tree teepee that will have hanging seats for people to enjoy. Another space they have is a pyramid tree fort.
“We wanted this place to be a spot for deep reflection,” Constantini said. “You can close all the windows and the door and be in complete darkness, or you can open it up, and there will be a bed and a couch to be in nature and relax.”
