The young girl was a passenger in the 2009 Nissan Rouge involved in the first crash. The car was stopped at a stop sign, waiting to turn left from Riverwalk Court onto northbound Route 59 when it failed to yield to a 2004 Toyota Rav4 traveling south on the state highway, police said.

The Toyota crashed into the driver’s side of the Nissan. Novak said the girl quickly got out of the SUV, ran east from the site of the crash and got hit by another car, a 2012 Ford Fusion that was driving north on Route 59.

All other people involved in the crash refused medical attention, Novak told Patch. The three cars were each towed from the scene.

Plainfield officers called Illinois State Police troopers to the scene, where they reconstructed the incident. The crash remains under investigation.

Route 59 between Route 126 to 143rd Street was closed for several hours as a result of the crash. Plainfield Emergency Management Agency personnel assisted on the scene.
