FRAMINGHAM, MA — The NFL’s biggest game of the year is this Sunday. Though some have chosen to focus on superstar travel plans, odd prop bets and other facets of the weekend, here at Patch we’re locked in on what’s important: Food and drink.
There’s just one problem, and it’s that we aren’t experts. So we’ve gone the college football route and recruited people who know much better than we do what makes a good Super Bowl party snack, main course and even what you should plan to drink.
Patch reached out to some of the best sports bars, breweries and others in the industry to collect some intel on what the area’s best and brightest culinary minds are planning for their festivities.

At Framingham’s Jack’s Abby, Rob Day is a lifelong Patriots fan and yearly Super Bowl watcher. So even though the Pats find themselves at the top of the draft and not the top of the league after the 2023 season, Day will still be watching.
We asked him to answer a few questions about where he likes to watch the game, what he’ll be drinking and what he prefers to eat. Questions are listed in bold:

Do you go out or stay home for the Super Bowl (if you aren’t working)?
Good question — It’s very mood based. Some years I have really enjoyed kicking back and watching it at home with a small group. One year a group of friends rented a vacation house for the weekend that happened to be the Super Bowl and we got to watch it in a home away from home. However – the MOST fun I have had at Super Bowls has been out with a big group of strangers cheering for the same thing. I have to be invested in the game for that one though.
In your opinion, what is the best Super Bowl party food?
I don’t think you can beat pizza and I have my reasons! First, it’s going to be on everyone’s list because it is so versatile and tastes awesome. Second, it is one of the most perfect foods to pair with a range of beers so you can eat and drink without thinking too much about how they go together. Finally, I’m a talker and a mover. So I need portable “less” messy food. This is why pizza passes wings, dips etc. for me.
What’s your go-to dish if you’re attending a party or watching at home?
Does a large amount of beer count?
I like to switch it up, but I’m into homemade pimento cheese dip right now. I’ll give a loose recipe, but I cook more by taste.
From there I think it’s good to chill it overnight and let the flavors meld. You can also shape it into some fun things — like a football? — if you want.

Football beer or drink of choice?
Jack’s Abby Post Shift all day. The easiest pairing beer and super easy to drink in case you go to overtime.

I feel like you can’t bet against Kansas City anymore. So Chiefs it is especially if Vegas makes them the underdog.
