Students attending The Highlands School don’t just hail from Harford County but also Cecil Council, Baltimore County and even Pennsylvania, Nachtigal told Patch. The preschoolers will work on listening, reading, writing, speaking, fine and gross motor skills, numbers, shapes, comparisons, working with others, and how to be a friend, she added.
“They will go on field trips that correlate with the curriculum. They will also have the opportunity to participate in our agriculture and horticulture program. They will also have at least one musical performance a year,” Nachtigal told Patch.

The Little Pipers Preschool will offer two classes for four-year-olds and be open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Preschool spaces are limited to 20 students and the student to teacher ratio will be no more than 10:1 with a floating teaching assistant in the classroom, too, Nachtigal said.
“Our teachers are trained in early childhood education and the science of reading. Our school functions to teach students how to learn which will be built into the preschool class through multi-sensory learning, educational play and developmentally appropriate curriculum,” Nachtigal told Patch.
Founded in 1996, The Highlands School was originally located in Street. Then in 2007, The Highlands School moved to an 18.5-acre campus. To learn more about The Highlands Little Pipers Preschool, contact Suzanne Lippa at [email protected] or call 410-836-1415.
