The incident happened at about 3:24 a.m. March 23 at Gas and Wash at 25653 W. Lockport St. The incident was listed in Plainfield police’s arrest blotter on Wednesday.
Police were dispatched to the gas station for a report of retail theft when they located a man, later identified as 21-year-old Donovan M. Gresham, and a woman standing next to a gray Chevrolet hatchback. When police approved them, Donovan fled on foot before returning to the gas station shortly after, Commander Anthony Novak told Patch.

Officers attempted to place the man into custody when he “took a fighting stance and resisted officers.” Before Donovan was placed in handcuffs, a brief struggle ensued, during which an officer sustained minor lacerations to his hand, according to Novak.
The Plainfield Police Department spokesperson said Donovan, whose knees were scratched from the incident, refused medical attention from Plainfield Fire Protection District personnel who were called to the scene to evaluate everyone involved.

Officers found the six-pack sitting in the back seat of the car before seizing it and returning the item to the gas station mart.
Donovan was charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer and aggravated assault to a peace officer, both felonies, as well as resisting a peace officer and retail theft, both misdemeanors. The man, of the 5400 block of South Kimbark Avenue in Chicago, was also wanted out of Cook County on two active no-bond warrants.
