ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — An ongoing strike again changed recycling and yard waste collection plans in Anne Arundel County.
Affected residents should now put out their recycling and yard waste on their normal collection day. Crews will pick it up within two days. Bins should be left at the curb until they are emptied.
Trash service is unaffected and will continue as scheduled.

About 70 Ecology Services workers went on strike Wednesday, canceling most curbside collection last week in Laurel, Odenton, Pasadena and Severna Park.
Teamsters Local 570 union members said they were protesting working conditions and the $3-per-day raise they were offered. Employees have picketed outside Ecology’s Pasadena truck yard.

“These people work hard. They’re hardworking, and they deserve better,” Sean Cedenio, the secretary-treasurer for Teamsters Local 570, told Patch in an exclusive interview last Wednesday.
The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works tapped Gunther Refuse Service, MBG Refuse Service and Goode Companies to fill the collection gap.
“We are so grateful that these local businesses and their employee teams have stepped in to help their neighbors during this situation,” DPW Director Karen Henry said in a Thursday press release. “We appreciate the patience and flexibility of all of our customers as we work to resume curbside collection services in affected communities.”
After last week’s collection pause, the DPW scheduled make-up recycling and yard waste collections for this past Saturday.
Patch contacted Ecology for a comment, but the company has not responded. We will update this story if we get a reply.
