NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — A man suspected of shooting and killing another man in North Hollywood Monday morning was shot and killed by police in a series of shootouts that shutdown Victory Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A stretch of Victory Boulevard at the Hollyoowd (170) Freeway will remain closed to traffic throughout the afternoon Monday, and commuters are advised to avoid the area. The Victory Boulevard offramps from the northbound and southbound Hollywood (170) Freeway were closed for the ongoing investigation as well.

The shootout began at about 4:50 a.m. when officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at Victory Boulevard and Bellingham Avenue, said LAPD Officer Charles Miller.

“That’s when they located a suspect who was armed with a firearm, and he pointed it at the officers,” Miller added.

Police fired on him, and the unnamed suspect fled from arriving officers, leading to a series of police shootings and a chase through a busy Victory Boulevard shopping center, according to police.

The suspect ran north on Bellingham Avenue, where police established a perimeter. A second police shooting occurred at St Clair Avenue and Hamlin Street, where the suspect ran into a large parking structure, said Miller. The parking structure is located across from a school and childcare center, and police surrounded the structure.

When the suspect exited the parking structure on the northside, police shot and killed him, according to the LAPD. After the suspect was killed, investigators discovered the body of a man in an SUV on Victory Boulevard. Police believe the victim was shot to death by the suspect before police arrived on the scene.
