SHELTON, CT — Trader Joe’s, a popular national grocery chain with an emphasis on both value and quality, confirmed this week plans to open a new store in Shelton, however where and when it will open remains unclear.

In an email to Patch, a Trader Joe’s spokesperson confirmed a new store for Shelton is planned, but noted a location and timeframe for when a store might open in town could not be confirmed yet.

“We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year,” the spokesperson said. “While we have plans to open a store in Shelton, CT, we do not have a location or timeline to confirm.”

According to the Connecticut Post, it had long been speculated Trader Joe’s would open at the Fountain Square plaza after the Planning and Zoning Commission approved development of a 13,800 square foot building that would house a “specialty grocer” back in September.

Neither Trader Joe’s, the city or Highview Commercial, the developers of Fountain Square, have confirmed whether the “specialty grocer” is Trader Joe’s, leaving the future site of the planned Shelton store still unclear.

The spokesperson also noted all Trader Joe’s stores opening soon are listed on the company’s website.
