The fire started just after 11 p.m. inside Jerusalem Pizza, and quickly rose to three-alarm status. Firefighters had to be called in from nearby towns, and it took firefighters five hours to put out the fire.

Money raised will also go to the five tenants who lived in apartments above Jerusalem Pizza. These are the people Highland Park police officers had to pull to safety Tuesday night while the restaurant was on fire below. One tenant had to be taken to Robert Wood Johnson hospital for smoke inhalation.

“In the early morning of February 7th a major fire broke out in our beloved Jerusalem Pizza in Highland Park at 231 Raritan Ave,” wrote the fundraiser organizer. “The Reformed Church Affordable Housing Corporation had five residents in the upstairs apartments and several other families were affected. We are raising funds to help aid and replace everything lost in the fire. We as a community always takes care of our own. Every little bit will ease the struggle of these folks, some lost everything.”
