ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — As it has for the past 12 years, Christian Liberty Academy will be hosting sailors on Christmas Day. This time around, 45 sailors from Naval Station Great Lakes will be at 502 W. Euclid Ave.
“These sailors cannot go home for Christmas, so CLA and Arlington Heights will do our very best to give them a Christmas almost as good as home,” Greg Padovani, chairman of the Veterans Memorial Committee of Arlington Heights, tells Patch.
This includes a full Christmas dinner, unlimited treats, free phone calls home all day, video games and TV (all the stuff Padovani says are not allowed on the base), and lots of well wishing.

“A big part of this effort comes from the hundreds of people on Christmas morning who will offer a warm welcome to these young men and women,” Padovani said. “There will be a flag line along Ridge Avenue manned by hearty volunteers.”
All are welcome to greet the sailors when they arrive — including a Flag line along Ridge Avenue. Organizers ask attendees to arrive at CLA by 9 a.m.

“It would only take an hour or so of your time, but it would mean so much to these great young people,” Padovani said. “We can’t overstate how much this means to them.”
A luncheon will be served to the recruits and volunteers (RSVP required). For RSVP and more information, contact Bob Stack, [email protected].
