JOLIET —The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office of Jim Glasgow has charged 66-year-old east side of Joliet resident Lamarris Creal in connection with last week’s violent attack of a 69-year-old man at the Highland Liquors parking lot at 1619 East Cass Street.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office arrested Creal and put him in the Will County Jail around 3 p.m. on Dec. 18. According to the complaint, Creal is charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of attempted robbery. Creal hit the 69-year-old man in the face and tried to take money from the man’s wallet, the prosecutors noted.

Will County prosecutors filed a petition to deny pretrial release for Creal, who has been kept in the Will County Jail on four different occasions since 2019, jail logs show.

According to the petition:

Will County’s deputies were called to Highland Liquors after learning that a man was attacked by Creal. The victim had fresh injuries to his face, but he refused to go to the hospital. He told sheriff’s deputies that Creal sold him four pills of Norco for his back pain for $32 on credit in October. However, he could not pay Creal back, and Creal kept hounding him for the money, the court records show.

On Dec. 18, Creal saw the man at the parking lot of Highland Liquors and that’s when Creal approached him, yelling and screaming for his money, prosecutors noted.

Creal hit the man in the face, knocking him down and grabbing for the victim’s wallet, prosecutors explained. The victim yelled for help and refused to give up his wallet. Sheriff’s deputies learned that Creal left in his car after the confrontation.

When Creal was arrested back at his house, he told deputies that the victim owed him money. Prosecutors noted that Creal weighs 245 pounds while the victim was only 5-foot-6 and 140 lbs.

“The defendant is a danger to (the victim) and the community as he does not have medical authority to sell pills. He also has a history of violence,” prosecutors noted.

A Will County ruled against the prosecution and ordered Creal’s release from the jail on Dec. 20.

Creal was ordered to remain under electronic monitoring and home confinement, 24 hours a day.

“Office of statewide pretrial services granted leave to amend home confinement order upon a showing of good cause,” the judge’s entry noted.
